The two megawatt solar park on the rooftop of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) at Thuwal, near Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, was the first large-scale solar installation in Saudi Arabia. Built by Conergy, a consortium of Hamburg-based solar experts, and National Solar Systems (NSS), the plant features two rooftop solar installations with a capacity of 1 MW each, installed on the north and south laboratories of the university. At the time of its construction, the KAUST Solar Park was the largest project in the world to earn LEED Platinum certification, as well as the first LEED-certified project in the Kingdom.
